KATY MARKS

Katy studied Architecture in Glasgow School of Art, Madrid and Cambridge University. She is an Architect, product designer and experienced facilitator, with a Masters in Environmental Design. She has extensive experience working with complex Listed Buildings and on projects with diverse, creative communities at their core. She founded Citizens Design Bureau in 2013 and oversees all of our projects. Since then, she has carved out a reputation for a design approach that is atmospheric, tactile and rich in colour and texture whilst being rigorously practical, flexible and humane. She puts huge emphasis on drawing and making, ecological innovation and collaborative design processes.

Prior to establishing Citizens Design Bureau, Katy worked at Haworth Tompkins where she was a project Architect for the National Theatre Studios refurbishment, Young Vic theatre and most recently the 2014 Stirling Prize winning Everyman Theatre in Liverpool - her home city. Katy previously lived in South Africa in 2001-2002, where she co-founded SOMOHO Arts, Community and Environment project - opened by Kofi Annan. In 2005. She also designed and co-founded ImpactHub, now a network of over 80 not-for-profit co-working spaces across 6 continents. She sits on Hackney, Harrow and Hounslow Design Review Panels and is a Design Advocate for the Mayor of London.

 
 

MARCO STRIZZOLO

Marco studied Architecture at the University of Udine in Italy. Since joining Citizens Design Bureau he has managed many of our most complex projects including Jacksons Lane Theatre, St Peter’s in the Forest Church, The Talent House project for East London Dance and UDMusic in Stratford and is currently working on our refurbishment of the Ambassadors Theatre in the West End. He also supports detailing and management of many other projects in the office. Marco is a details man as well as being an exquisite illustrator.


 
 
 

GLADYS CHING

Gladys gained a Distinction from the Bartlett before working at MICA Architects as project Architect on the refurbishment of Fairfield Halls Concert Hall and Cultural Centre - winning an NLA Conservation and Retrofit Award. Since joining Citizens Design Bureau, Gladys is leading our project to design a new net zero carbon visitor centre for the National Trust on their Grade I Listed Shugborough Estate in Staffordshire.

Gladys is also an accomplished musician

 
 

GLenn strachan

Glenn completed their Masters at the University of Sheffield, where they were awarded the ‘West Yorkshire Society of Architects Prize’ and the ‘Evans Vettori Drawing Award’. Their research explores an intersectional feminist approach to architecture, centring Trans+ joy as an active form of resistance and questioning how the architecture industry treats Trans+ individuals. Prior to joining CDB, they worked with Gort Scott Architects.

Glenn is currently working on the Shugborough Estate Visitors Centre.

 
 

JASNEET RATTAN

Jasneet studied at the University of East London and has experience in community and private housing as well as historic buildings. She has also spent considerable time in Sri Lanka inspired by the work of Geoffrey Bawa and C Anjalendran. Jasneet is currently leading our project to create a community event space and cafe within Beckton Park in Newham and working on the renovation of a Grade II Listed mid-century terrace of houses overlooking the ponds in Hampstead Heath.

 
 

Maegan Icke

Meg studied at the Royal College of Art and is currently leading the design of a live music venue in Clapton, East London as well as the design of a community park and wider co-design process for the regeneration of the Gascoigne Estate in Barking as part of a housing project by Haworth Tompkins. Prior to Citizens Design Bureau, Meg was working on innovative school projects at Hawkins Brown as well an award winning affordable workspace project in Dalston with Y/N Studio. Alongside work in practice, Meg teaches at the Canterbury School of Architecture and is also one half of artist duo ‘Tool/Toy Project’ often taking the form of inventing tools, toys, activities, engagements, and devices that aim to playfully analyse and expand our understanding of human interactions with physical space and the natural world.
