KATY MARKS
Katy studied Architecture in Glasgow School of Art, Madrid and Cambridge University. She is an Architect, product designer and experienced facilitator, with a Masters in Environmental Design. She has extensive experience working with cultural buildings, complex conservation and on projects with diverse, creative communities at their core. She founded Citizens Design Bureau in 2013 and oversees all of our projects. Since then, she has carved out a reputation for a design approach that is atmospheric, tactile and rich in colour and texture whilst being rigorously practical, flexible and humane. She puts huge emphasis on drawing and making, ecological innovation and collaborative design processes. The buildings she has worked on have won many awards. She has also been personally awarded RIBA North West Project Architect of the Year.
Prior to establishing Citizens Design Bureau, Katy worked at Haworth Tompkins where she was a project Architect for the National Theatre Studios refurbishment, Young Vic theatre and most recently the 2014 Stirling Prize winning Everyman Theatre in Liverpool - her home city. Katy previously lived in South Africa in 2001-2002, where she co-founded SOMOHO Arts, Community and Environment project - opened by Kofi Annan. In 2005. She also designed and co-founded ImpactHub, now a network of over 80 not-for-profit co-working spaces across 6 continents. She sits on Hackney, Harrow and Hounslow Design Review Panels and is a Design Advocate for the Mayor of London. Katy is also founder and director of www.unobra.co.uk - a company that makes lingerie and swimwear for women who have had a single mastectomy following breast cancer surgery.
RUKMINI RAGHU
Rukmini is an experienced project architect leading our Norwich Theatre project and housing for Hackney New Homes Programme. She also worked on our award-winning Jacksons Lane Theatre project.
Rukmini recently won the AJ100 New Talent - New Architect award for her work as project architect on the commercial refurbishment of 3 New Street Square whilst at DMFK Architects. She completed her Part 1 & 2 studies at the University of Cambridge and achieved a distinction in her Part 3 studies at the University of Westminster.
Outside of the studio, she is also a guest critic at University of East London
ARTHUR TRIEU
Arthur is an experienced project architect leading our Passiv Haus housing project for Hackney New Homes Programme and a new community centre for Newham Council.
Prior to joining Citizens Design Bureau, Arthur was an Associate at Owers Warwick Architects in Cambridge, where he led large £18-20m projects at all RIBA stages.
Arthur studied at London Met, University of East London and then did his part II Diploma and an MPhil in Urban Design at Cambridge University.
MAURIZIO MUCCIOLA
Maurizio is an architect with extensive international experience across cultural, civic and residential projects, working at both strategic and detailed design stages. He has led and contributed to projects ranging from small-scale refurbishments to large, complex public buildings, with a particular focus on museums, galleries and public buildings. Maurizio is currently leading our V&A Museum Gilbert Galleries Project.
Prior to joining Citizens Design Bureau, Maurizio worked internationally with practices including Kengo Kuma & Associates in Tokyo and Paris, and OMA in Rotterdam. His experience includes major cultural projects such as the V&A Dundee, alongside exhibition design and other architectural projects. He has also run his own architectural practice for several years, delivering projects across Europe.
Maurizio studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and Columbia University in New York. He teaches architectural design at The Bartlett School of Architecture and is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Maurizio is also an accomplished architectural photographer.
